U16 Ladies Division C Champions

St.John’s 8-08

Geevagh 6-08

Our Tom MacSharry sponsored U16 girls won the C Championship today in Curry against a strong and skillful Geevagh outfit. Geevagh had registered 2-04 before our girls found their form but once located, it wasn’t lost!
It was a fantastic team performance with everyone giving 100% in pursuit of the cup that evaded them two years against the same opposition. Emily Kate Lynch scored 0-2, Sophie Quinn 1-1, Mikeala Armstrong 1-0, Hollie McAndrew 0-1, Emma Carty 0-1 and huge acclaim to Rachel McGoldrick who registered an incredible 6-03 (2 penalties). So much supply for scores came from Abi Jorgensen(who did a great job curtailing her marker), Emily Hession, Kelsey Rooney and Emma Lineen who are to be commended for their workrate. Claudia Carr was on her ‘A’ game in goals. The defence also put in serious effort and all played exceptionally well- Mimi Lee, Megan McCarney, Ceoladh McLoughlin, Emma Egan, Shannon Clerkin, Hollie McAndrew and Esther Oyewusi, as joint captain giving a sterling performance cutting out many attacks.
We were so fortunate to have a fantastic bench of players itching to feature. Nabeela Basith, Sophie McAndrew, Charlie May Armstrong, Alannagh McGowan, Ava Osborne and Shauna McGowan provided massive support to their teammates on the pitch, making as big an impact as if they had started themselves. Many of them got to play but their support made the comeback possible in the first place. Kyra Divers and Lily O Loughlin were carrying injuries that prevented them from playing but again, they were where they needed to be at 12pm with voices loud and encouraging.
When the final whistle blew the management of Gerard Egan, Declan Kelly, Shakara Mellon Cawley and Olivia Flannery joined players and supporters in celebrating a deserved win, with captains Esther Oyewusi and Abi Jorgensen being presented with the cup by Sligo LGFA Children’s Officer, Jacinta Monaghan.
Credit to Curry for their fantastic facilities today for all six U16 finals. Thanks to referee Eugene McHale for reffing a tough, competitive but very fair game and to our umpires Faílenn McLoughlin, Brian McGowan and Michael McAndrew who always step up when needed and represent our club with integrity.
Molly Fultons was the perfect end to the day. Thanks to all the staff who catered for us so well.
